Guest night: Paul Sealey
28th October 2008
Paul Sealey
Paul came all the way from London to play at the Southern Jazz Guitar Society, linking up with local Double Bass player Malcolm Creese.
Paul’s instruments are guitar, bass guitar, and banjo and he is also a skilled arranger. He started playing stringed instruments in 1953 and turned professional in 1959. He has played jazz styles ranging from The New Orleans Revival band (Barry Martyn/Ken Colyer) through mainstream to modern jazz guitar (Pass/Kessel etc.)

Paul was a member of the Chris Barber Band from 1994 to 2004, and recorded with them many times. He has also recorded with champion Jack Dupree, Albert Nicholas, Ruby Braff, and Wild Bill Davidson, and freelanced in all styles ranging from Monty Sunshine to (Serbian trumpet player) Dusko Goykovich, plus a stint in the Midnite Follies Orchestra - formed in Britain in 1978 by jazz musicians Keith Nichols and Alan Cohen.

Paul’s CD ‘does what it says on the tin’ i.e. easy swinging jazz in the style of Barney Kessel, with especially nice chord work. A short extract of his version of ‘East Of The Sun’, from this CD, can be listened to on the diary page of the SJGS website, or from the link at the bottom of this page.
